Group Cruise Questions and Answers
Does the group leader travel free?
Not automatically. Some groups earn a tour conductor credit or amenity points that the leader can apply to their own fare, but this depends on group size, the cruise line and the sailing. Terms vary by line.
Do I have to collect money from everyone?
No, and it is better not to. Each guest pays the cruise line for their own cabin through the group’s advisor, which keeps payments and refunds clear.
Can guests choose different cabin types?
Yes. A group block can include several categories, from inside cabins to suites. Decide on the mix before the block is created.
Can we sit together at dinner?
Groups can request tables together in the main dining room. Large groups may be seated at several neighboring tables. Make the request early.
What if someone has to cancel?
They follow the cruise line’s cancellation terms for the group. Before final payment, cancellation is usually inexpensive; after it, penalties apply, which is why travel insurance is recommended.
Can people join the group late?
Often, if cabins remain in the block or the line can add more. Late additions may pay a different rate.
Do we all have to fly together?
No. Most groups meet at the port or the night before at a hotel. Arriving the day before sailing protects against flight delays.
Can we get cabins next to each other?
Cabins in a group block are often in the same area of the ship, especially when the block is set up early. Adjoining and connecting cabins are limited, so request them at the start.
Is there an extra fee for booking as a group?
Booking through a group block normally costs nothing extra. Any program fee a host adds for private events or materials should be explained up front and kept separate from the cruise fare.
Should everyone buy travel insurance?
We recommend it for every guest. Group cruises involve more people and more chances that someone’s plans change; insurance helps protect each traveler’s payments after penalties begin.
Can we book a private shore excursion for the group?
Yes. Groups can book the cruise line’s tours together or arrange a private tour in port. Private tours should get you back to the ship well before the all-aboard time.
How small can a group cruise be?
Cruise lines set their own group minimums. Even a few cabins of friends benefit from booking together through one advisor.
